Left vs Right

There is war!

Not a war against a familiar enemy with guns and bombs but an enemy of our neighbours, friends and family.

This war is not about land or overthrowing a dictatorship.

This war is about political views, something at one stage was considered to be your own choice and belief but now its causing a war within communities and families.

This blog is looking at why the Left act in such passionate and sometimes forcible methods to get their point across while the Right refuse to change and sit firm and stubborn.

Is there an option for a middle ground or are we too late and this war is well and truly about picking a side and sticking to it.

LEFT:

The left see themselves as "the change" to a better world, a world of more inclusive and free thinking people who can live in harmony, yet all I read is stories about people losing their career's, friends and family because they appeared on a podcast, read a book of a conservative figure or voted for the wrong president.

Most recently Winston Marshall had to leave his career as a musician in the Mumford and Sons group due to him tweeting about a book he read, He didnt mention that he agreed or even liked the book, he simply called the author "Brave" and this caused an uproar and continuing backlash.

I know that people use the phrase "cancel culture" almost to the point where its a throwaway line but when I read stories such as these its hard not to see their point.

Why do the left feel that the only way they can get their point across is to cancel those who appose their position or opinions?

Even those who agree that something they have said or done 5,10 or 20 years ago and apologies and prove they are no longer that person, they are still being targeted.

Wouldnt is be better to accept those who have accepted they did wrong and embrace them as spokes people for your cause to show that the left is a group of forgiving people who accept change for the better instead of burning as many people as possible.

They remind me of a certain conqueror in Game of thrones who started off with the best of intentions but grew to burn cities to the ground in their name and cause.

RIGHT:

When you speak of the right you imagine old white men sitting in leather chairs, smoking cigars and drinking brandy, yet the more I look into this it does not seem to be the case.

There are many people who may not lean right at all, however if they are not 100% committed to the leftist cause in creating a better world they are deemed to be right winged and conservative's simply for having different views on things such as religion, culture and even personal ethics.

However there are the right wing conservatives who refuse change, dont accept that anything needs to change or would rather create a divide with people who dont agree with their values similar to the left.

Someone who comes to mind is Steven Crowder who has made a career out of proving the leftist ideology is wrong and why they are wrong. I will admit when I first started watching his videos I found some enjoyment in his methods but I realised that after a while there is no way that someone will ever "change his mind" because he is very careful on the topics that he choses and the way he structures his conversations.

This is not the way to get people together when you spend your whole career pulling others down and belittling them, I get the feeling that he gets enjoyment for being the smartest people in the conversation and ensures that the people who speak to understand this.

Someone who I believe is a better example would be Dr Jordan Peterson, Dr Peterson is someone who looks at things in a big picture, social, psychological and biological way and many of his points are not meant to make others feel inferior or belittled, he states facts and sticks to those all while being professional and kind when when speaking to others.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

My Thoughts are simple on this one, the idea that you are part of a revolution who will spark change for a better world sounds great but the left need to more accommodating on how to achieve this as a group of people and they need to stop fuelling the "cancel culture" or assuming that everyone has a past that they need to pay for.

If they want to create a better future they need to stop looking at the past and show change through examples, acceptance and community not fire and fury.

The right need to acknowledge that change is coming, change can be good and the best way to do that is not to belittle others but listen, work with the left and create and better future.

If the left stop the punish everyone mentality I feel that the right will not only be accommodating and accepting of the change but will help implement the change for the better.

I really hope that one day we will look back at this time as a stepping stone to a better time.
